gSyncit and 32/64 Bit Install Issue

SUMMARY

When installing gSyncit 32 or 64 bit you may receive a message that the installation requires the 32 or 64 bit version of Outlook and is unable to install either version of gSyncit.

This message appears as a result of the installer checking your Outlook installation registry entries to determine if you have the required 32 or 64 bit version of Outlook installed. If you have Outlook registry entries for both the 32 and 64 bit versions of Outlook then then the gSyncit installer will think you have both installed and stop the install.

The installation determines if you are using a 32 or 64 bit version of Outlook using something called a "Bitness" key in your Windows registry. the installer looks at the Outlook 2010, 2013 and 2016 registry keys looking for this Bitness value. This value is installed and populated by the Outook installer and can be set to either x86 or x64 to indicate if you are using a 32 bit (x86) or 64 (x64) bit version of Outlook.

A problem occurs when you have multiple Outlook bitness keys on your system where one entry says you have the 32-bit (x86) version of Outlook installed and another says you have the 64-bit (x64)version. This conflict causes the installer to think you have both the 32 and 64 bit versions of Outlook installed and stop the installation.

RESOLUTION

To correct this issue you will need to start the “regedit” utility in Windows and locate each of the four registry entries shown below for each version of Outlook referenced in the registry.

Examine the registry keys for each Outlook version you do not have installed. If there is a value in the bitness field then set to no value.

Examine the registry keys for the Outlook version you do have installed. Make sure the correct bitness value is entered in the data field of the key.

If any of the four keys below cannot be found in your registry editor, that is okay. The key can be ignored; do not add them.

Outlook 2010 = 14.0
Outlook 2013 = 15.0
Outlook 2016 = 16.0

x86 = 32-bit version of Outlook
x64 = 64-bit version of Outlook
