NetUse v1 (Beta)

MAP A WINDOWS DRIVE LETTER TO A FTP SERVER

DESCRIPTION

NetUse is a "FREE" utility that allows mapping a Windows drive letter to a remote FTP server.

FEATURES
  • Simple installation; does not require any special Windows device drivers.

  • Easy to use interface; runs as a small Microsoft Windows system tray app.

  • Map any FTP server to a Windows drive letter.

  • Configure multiple drives and set them to map automatically when logging into Windows.

  • Built-in caching for improved file navigation.

  • Supports basic file operations including delete, rename, move, and copy for files and folders.

  • Configurable logging levels to assist with troubleshooting (or general curiosity).

HOW IT WORKS

NetUse runs in the Microsoft Windows system tray and leverages the native Windows ability to map a network drive with a WebDav server. NetUse creates a WebDav server "proxy" to communication with the configured FTP server making a FTP server behave like a WebDav server. NetUse creates a WebDav server using the open source library WebDavSharp.Server and establishes a mapped drive to it using the Windows NetAddConnection API. NetUse then proxies the WebDav requests to a "store" implementation using the open source FluentFTP library for remote file operations. NetUse is designed to support additional file stores beyond FTP for future enhancements.
